Umea

A pretty, cold-voiced, skinny-fingered woman aiding Strickland's abduction of Ganymede's children.

Story so far

Umea is the woman who accompanies Doctor Strickland when he takes Mei from her Montessori school on Ganymede. She poses politely as an escort — carrying Mei's rolled-up painting, smiling for the teacher — but Mei instantly dislikes her voice and manner. Inside the hidden surface facility she speaks in operational terms, telling Strickland to "check with ops, load up, and let's release it," implying she has authority over some deployment.

Left alone with Mei, she drops the pretense, does not smile, and coolly leads the child to a cold room to show her the malformed, glowing-eyed man in the glass tank, asking almost idly whether Mei likes "space monsters."

Appearance

A pretty woman with skinny fingers; smells of artificial floral perfume; her voice is off-putting and her face goes unsmiling and hard when unobserved.

Role

Strickland's operational partner in abducting children and 'releasing' something aboard the facility.

Relationships

Doctor Strickland — Her partner in the child abductions, whom she coordinates with on 'ops' and the release of something.
Mei — The frightened child she escorts and unsettlingly shows the creature in the tank.
