Nancy Gao

Secretary-General Gao · the new SG

Nancy Gao replaces Esteban as United Nations secretary-general while the Ring fleet returns with news that will redefine Earth's future.

Story so far

During the fleet's month-long voyage home, Hector Cortez tells Anna that Nancy Gao has defeated or replaced Esteban as secretary-general of the United Nations. No details of the contest reach the observation lounge, but Cortez considers Chrisjen Avasarala's influence obvious.

Gao therefore assumes Earth's highest elected office at the moment ships from Earth, Mars, and the outer planets return with proof of more than a thousand accessible worlds. Her own views, appearance, and direct role in the transition remain undescribed, but the timing makes her new administration inseparable from the gates' political consequences.

Appearance

Nancy Gao's physical appearance and attire are not described; only her new office as United Nations secretary-general is established.

Role

Gao is Earth's incoming political leader, inheriting the United Nations just as the opened gate network overturns old assumptions of scarcity and territory.
